UN sustainable Developments Goals

In Baltic Shipping Company A/S we are placing this responsibility high on the agenda and have increased focus on 8 of the 17 global goals for sustainable development. The action comprises strategies and measures against climate changes as well as awareness-raising on climate changes.


GOAL 3

We take our responsibility for ensuring a good health and the well-being of our employees very serious. Goal 3 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals includes the promotion of a good and healthy lifestyle. In Baltic Shipping Company A/S we walk the talk By serving a delicious and healthy breakfast and lunch – and by supporting and jointly doing various sport activities such as Half Marathon runs – we have together managed to change the culture and mindset – it has become both convenient AND cool to be healthy

GOAL 4

Is about ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all. Full support to further/supplementary personal as well as professional education and development opportunities both as on the job training and external education are an important part of Baltic Shipping Company A/S employee development. We have a number of trainees within all departments and we are proud to be able to attract , educate and retain such a high number of brilliant young minds

GOAL 5

Is about ensuring empowerment and achieving gender equality. Shipping is historically a male dominated industry – and we are proud of the high number of talented female colleagues we have in all departments and at all levels of the organization. In Baltic Shipping Company A/S all employees experience a high level of empowerment and we hire and pay our employees purely based on personality, mindset and qualifications.

Includes promoting sustainable economic growth by achieving higher levels of productivity and technological upgrading and innovation. In Baltic Shipping Company A/S this is obtained by prioritizing a safe and secure working environment and by having a constant focus on working smarter by improving and automating processes were possible. By succeeding in this, we optimize and support a healthy growth of the business and hence the creation of new jobs.

GOAL 9

Includes developing quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure to support economic development and human well-being. Efficient transportation services are key drivers of economic development, and more than 80 per cent of world merchandise trade by volume is transported by sea, making maritime transport a critical enabler of trade and globalization. International maritime freight are increasing rapidly and the continued development of the maritime transport infrastructure to support increased freight volumes is of essence. Quality in everything we do is essential to us. Our quality policy states that we always comply with legislation, rules and agreements entered into, and we give the highest priority to customer satisfaction. Baltic Shipping Company A/S is ISO certified in quality management which ensures a high quality of our work procedures and decisions allowing us to work even closer with our customers and other business partners in our constant attempt of improving and optimize everything we do.

GOAL 13

We all have a responsibility for sustainability. In Baltic Shipping Company A/S we are placing this responsibility high on the agenda. The action comprises strategies and measures against climate changes as well as awareness-raising on climate changes. To emphasize the importance of Goal 13 – Climate Action – which includes adaption to and prevention of climate related hazards, we will identify and promote energy-optimisation and more climate friendly means of transportation. In Baltic Shipping Company A/S we do this by measuring and highlighting the CO2-emmission of each freight carried by a BSC vessel – we jointly support sustainable freight.

GOAL 14

Includes conserving and sustainably use the oceans for sustainable development. Ocean acidification is caused by the uptake of atmospheric CO2 by the ocean, which changes the chemical composition of the seawater. In Baltic Shipping Company A/S we promote energy-optimisation and more climate friendly means of transportation. We do this by measuring and highlighting the CO2-emmission of each freight carried by a BSC vessel – and by comparing the CO2-emmission of the same cargo being moved by trucks and highlighting this to our customers, we jointly support sustainable freight.

GOAL 16

Includes reducing all types of corruption and bribery, including promoting human rights as a key element of a responsible development. Baltic Shipping Company A/S has policies on anti-corruption. We do not allow any kind of corruption or bribery. Our Code of Conduct concludes respect for human rights and forms the basis for good and fair behavior for all managers and employees.
